Statement of Intent.

With a political manifesto it is a statement of a vision of Utopia, that if everything was run along the lines of the document produced, then a harmonious and peaceful society would exist. Unfortunately this is never the case.

A manifesto promises everything, but how is Utopia achieved? By using the model of the book Utopia by Thomas More, the peaceful and harmonious society is achieved by the subjugation of one social class by another. Consequently this version of Utopia is only possible by the use of power to control and subdue a social class to the will of ruling class.

To express the use of power in this way I will take the conservative manifesto and add photographs that express the misuse of power and control. To help construct a narrative that supports this the photographs will have a common theme of the state repression and control of a social class. I will also produce a series of five campaign posters to accompany the manifesto that follow a similar narrative, of where the ruling class are vying to be elected and so have the power to continue the acts of repression.

The photographs that I will be using will be found on the internet or in publications, not my own. This is because there is a much broader range of images available, that if I was to use my own images, the project would not be making such a strong statement.

The final result will be a printed copy of the manifesto and the five posters reproduced to A3 size. This will achieve the effect of the finished document appearing to be a replica of the manifesto, that by having a physical artefact it will have a greater authenticity than if it was only a virtual copy.
