I originally started this project during the summer when I first encountered Little Stone Wood.

Wiith this being the case I am now documenting my original research and actions, as at the time I didn't keep a record because I thought it would just be a short summer project to keep me "ticking over". Consequently I am now going back and retracing my steps to show how I reached the starting point of the current project, which is just a continuation of the same project.

There are a few reasons why I chose to carry one photographing Little Stone Wood. First and foremost I do find the place so visually interesting that it is "crying out" to be photographed. Then it feels that with the project I have only scratched the surface, there is still a lot more to discover. Lastly, when I reach a certain point with a project I tend to move on and start again and I am curious as to how I can take this project forward with the help of my tutors.

The project culminated in the production of the photo book Only Dimly Aware of a Certain Unease in the Air, which was published with blurb and providesd a definitive line. So, the blog posts titled MPP History relate to the time during the summer when I started photographing Little Stone Wood and before the publication of the book. The blog posts titled MPP Research relate to the time afterwards and covers the continuation of the project.

I hope this all makes sense!

So, below is my original statement of intent. This was my initial idea and what I first wanted to express with photographing LIttle Stone Wood.

Statement of Intent.

Litlestone Forest and Fields.

For this project I intend to photograph Littlestone Forest in relation to the surrounding fields and highlight the difference between a wild space and a managed space.

The driving inspiration behind this project is the sense of contrast between the two areas, where one is managed and controlled and the other is just left wild. Also the forest is either surrounded by fields or pasture land, which highlights the contrast between the two areas.

I also plan to shoot using film, both colour and B&W. The colour will be used for the fields and the B&W for the forest, this is because visually it will highlight the difference between the two areas, it will help to demonstrate and reinforce the contrast. I also plan to shoot the fields more aesthetically pleasing than the forest because it helps to reinforce how they are different. Another reason for using film is because of the organic nature and look of the photographs will suit the subject matter.

The final result will be a picture book of 30 photographs, 15 colour and 15 B&W. The book will be sequenced so that the pages are colour and B&W alternatively, which will help to draw comparisons between the two images, but will also produce a sense of narrative for each series.
