I'been looking at the surrounding area to LSW and in particular Summerhouse Hill. Apparantly it got it's name as there used to be a summerhouse built on top but got burnt down in 1935 on Guy Fawkes night. Then the land was either bought or given to the military who use it as a training ground. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2161923 is where this info came from. So this could mean that LSW could be owned by the military as the surrounding hills are part of the military training area.

I also found out that the hill used to be owned by the Brockman Drake family, but the only information I coud find online was about a military family that lived in South Australia and have no record of them living in Kent, or even in England. However I could research their family tree and see if there is any distant connection.

They do have a facebook page for their family tree, https://www.facebook.com/Brockman-Drake-Brockman-Family-Tree-341696255930051/ and on the page is a link to their website http://www.brockman.net.au which does mention English and Australian connections.

According to the website "The land surrounding Beachborough was still owned by William (1882-1970) the son of Francis Drake-Brockman right up to the time of his death. As William was a bachelor, it's believed his sister Winifred who married Capt. Benjamin Arkle inherited the land in 1970 and then sold it." ( http://www.brockman.net.au/beachborough.html ) which explains the military connection and how the land ended up being owned by the army. Also, as they Drake Brockman family owned Summerhouse Hill, then it's likely that they owned LSW and sold that as well.

So, my next course of action is to contact the Brockman Drake family and see if they can shed any light on the subject. I also need to contact David Anstis who wrote the original article and I still need to get in touch with Beechborough House. I could also do with finding a map of the local army training ground to verify any information I find, but that is proving to be relatively difficult and frustrating.
